Islamic State Reflection

The "teachings" spread by the Islamic State to the surrounding population are a massive problem. They use twisted interpretations of Islam to brainwash people into feeling intense anger towards those that do not have the same beliefs as theirs.

I understand that when a group of people is oppressed, it is inevitable for there to be some form of rebellion and a birth of new ideas. Sometimes the resulting ideas are revolutionary in a positive way, such as the concept of equality among human beings that arose from slavery. However, in this case, the ideas are very detrimental to society. As we saw in the video, young kids are exposed to extreme forms of violence, and are brainwashed into wanting to kill other people. I was shocked to see how a man asked his five-year old son if he wanted to become a suicide bomber (or something along those lines, I don't remember exactly). Another disturbing part was when a young kid (who looked younger than 10 years old) raged about wanting to destroy the United States and he venerated the leader of the Islamic State. It is clear that such indoctrinations are quite strong, and they will be tough to undo for several generations. Moreover, they possess strong military abilities and advanced weapons, so they will be very hard to defeat by military forces.

I honestly don't know what could be the most effective method to reduce the power of the Islamic State and the harm caused by it. I doubt that they will listen to foreigners' suggestions against their beliefs, and violence doesn't appear promising. I just hope it doesn't keep getting more and more powerful and hard to control.
