Climate Change

When it comes to climate change, this is an issue that a lot of people know about, but only a few do something about it. I think the problem is not that we aren't aware that the climate is changing, but that we don't understand how big of a deal it really is. As a result, we tend to follow a passive role, myself included. Personally, I am strongly in favor of protecting the environment. However, I don't go out of my comfort zone to try to help change humanity's negative habits. I make small decisions, like turning off electronics when they are not in use, sometimes using the stairs instead of the elevator, trying to reduce water waste, use a reusable thermos instead of disposable plastic bottles, etc. These things could cause significant results if everyone did them, don't get me wrong, but they're not going to reduce our environmental harm as much as we need to, or even close. I think that, in order to truly improve the climate change trend, it's necessary to take a much more active attitude. Namely, protecting our environment should be a top priority for humanity. We already have the necessary technology, but we need strong convictions and a global cooperative effort. Companies and governments must accept that fossil fuels are no longer an option. But, this isn't going to happen by itself--those people are making huge profits. As citizens, it is our duty to press these institutions to act righteously. There are also things we can do ourselves: installing solar panels at home, replacing fuel-consuming cars with those powered by electricity, using public transportation, eating less meat, etc. I believe it's possible to steer the course of climate change in time to save future generations, but it's not going to happen by itself. We really need to pull our weight.
