Marijuana Legalization
Marijuana, otherwise known as pot, weed, grass or ganja. In recent years it has been of popular debate its legalization since it is to current day classified as a harmful drug. Marijuana is the drug that leads you to all others, it is the "gateway drug". The substance in itself is not that harmful, apart that it gives you a high, in contrast to cigarettes which shorten life expectancy and has hundreds of illnesses related to it, on the other hand marijuana does not have a single death in its name. Should it be legalized? the answer is no. The main argument that pro-pot activists have been using is that other countries in the world have legalized it and it has worked but, has it really? As we discussed in class Netherlands, a country known for having legalized marijuana has increased its use in this drug on teens since they decided to legalize it. Marijuana from my own experience is disgusting, for people like me that hate the smell legalization would be very bad since we would see more of the drug itself in use on the streets, therefore having to smell it more would be a logical assumption. The legalization of weed would just be adding more fuel to the fire, there would be more people getting high, more people driving under the influence, more people getting hooked into drugs by this substance, it would lead people to try other drugs and the black market for the heavier substances would increase. The way I see it the legalization of this drug has no positive effect other than that the people who do really need it and can't get it would actually find it more easily. I believe that there should be a limited amount of doctors that can actually prescribe marijuana focusing on helping these people, focusing only on them. I do personally feel for the people that need marijuana badly to that a condition of theirs but the consequences of legalizing marijuana is just too bad. As of today there is a war against drugs including marijuana, a war that we can't lose.
