Climate Change
Climate Change
Throughout the year, we have had the opportunity to educate ourselves with a problem that emerged during the mid 20th century, which is climate change. Climate change is a problem where there is a change in the distribution of weather patterns in the atmosphere, which causes the weather temperatures to rise. As many people know, we humans are the major cause of climate change, since our carbon dioxide emissions and other greenhouse gases cause the Earth’s climate to change. Throughout the time we have spent in Media Literacy and Current Events class, we have had the opportunities to learn about climate change in different ways, such as articles, TED Talks, documentaries, and assignments like posting daily causes of climate change in our Instagram. For example, in the last quarter we had the opportunity to watch an environmental documentary called “Cowspiracy,” which talked about how animal cattle is a major cause of climate change, since they create large amounts of a greenhouse gas called methane, which is a great cause of the climate change we are facing today. Also, we watched a documentary called “Before the Flood,” which talks about Leonardo Di Caprio and his expedition around the world, where he visited countries around the world to observe how climate change is vastly growing and how humans are the major cause of climate change. Both of these documentaries managed to educate me with major causes of climate change, how climate change is growing, and the effects that climate change is causing around the world. Besides watching documentaries about climate change, we watched a really interesting TED Talks about Al Gore and his opinion and encounters with climate change. In this segment, Al Gore talks about how he has seen climate change grow as a major problem, how we the human population are the major cause of climate change, he talks about what is going to happen if we don't reduce our CO2 emissions, and how he feels totally encouraged and responsible to solve this problem. This TED Talk was a really powerful speech, since he managed to create affection to the audience and viewers and managed to educate everyone with the problem we are facing. The last assignment we had, related to climate change, was an assignment where we needed to post daily pictures in our Instagram about daily encounters with either climate change causes or climate change solutions. I finded this assignment really enjoyable and interesting, since it managed to make me more aware about the things that are happening in my surroundings and how a part of my daily habits are a cause of climate change. In conclusion, climate change has been a really interesting topic that we have discussed in class in different ways. I do look forward into learning much more about the topic and reduce my carbon footprint to be able to solve this problem.
Fantastic.
