Eradicate hunger by 2030. That is the Global Goal I choose to support.
There is something primitive about the cry of a child from hunger, especially after you become a parent. It's in our nature to protect our children from hunger, from danger, from the elements and from any predators that may threaten their existence. We could be passed out cold in bed, out of sheer exhaustion, and would wake up a couple seconds before we hear that demand to be fed...it's a tug towards perpetuating ourselves through their lives. This is crystal clear. What is not clear is why then we allow so many people to see their children's lives go out, like a candle in the wind. Child mortality is preventable. Most children that die do so from conditions that should not doom them to this fate. The first 1000 days of infants are determinant in how they grow and develop. This includes the mother's nutrition, so she can then breastfeed and pass on life. Why is it then that so many children perish before their due? Inequality. The Earth produces enough resources to feed everyone; instead the countries that have the most waste the most. We need to find ways to promote sustainable agriculture and to educate people living in underprivileged regions. In turn, this will pave the way to a generation that could break the cycle of poverty: more nutrition, better development, more education and less child mortality and poverty. I support Global Goal 2: to eradicate hunger by 2030.
