Aura in a Nutshell
Hello! My
name is Aura Heinsen and I was born on September 2, 1998 on a small island in
the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic. Both the Dominican Republic and Haiti,
inhabit this island. Like I shared before I am Dominican and I was born in the
capital city, Santo Domingo. I was the first-born child to my parents, Aura
Garrido and Carlos Heinsen, making me the guinea pig of the family. After six
good years of being the only child, my brother Carlos Joaquin became part of
our family. I am currently a
senior at the Carol Morgan School and I am battling over the careers I will
like too pursue as an adult. I have a passion for art. Not only does it give me
pleasure to produce an artwork, but also it disconnects me from the world. When
I am painting, it’s just my thoughts and me. Not only am I taking AP Art this year as a process of making
my portfolio, but I have also taken the time to develop my own “company.” From
Me To You, is a brand that I created to help other through art express their
feeling in cards, presents or items. I feel that decorating a card or as simple
as writing your name somewhere shares your personality, which is my objective. Apart
from that, this summer I was in a two-week internship at Capital DBG, an agency
where I worked as a graphic designer. My second love is helping and children.
Ever since I was 4 years old I have always wanted to be a teacher. I’ve worked
in school like Bee Creative and I have loved teaching to the children. This
summer I also did an internship at CAID, which is a center for special needs
children that have Down Syndrome, Autism and Mental
Paralysis. Here I experienced a kind of love I have never felt before. These
children truly need help because not only are they troubled, but they are
victims of puberty. Being a therapist taught me patience, love and how hard
work pays off. Working in CAID
gave me satisfaction. As hard as it is to choose what I will be when I grow up,
I think both choices bring out the best in me.
