Source of Life: Water
Water, the
one thing other than air that we need the most. It is everywhere and covers most
of our earth and yet problems arise from it. People get sick from
contaminations, droughts in countries kill entire villages, and there isn’t
enough clean water for people to use for their hygienic purposes. Dirty water
can put hundreds of people in hospital and give someone dhirea. In rural areas people
die from lack of clean water or not having water at all. Children do not see
past the age of 5. Hygiene is also seen as large problem since many rural areas
lack basic hygiene necessities (showers, sinks, and especially toilets). A
woman in a small village in India spoke about how not having a toilet in or
near her home affected her. She spoke of how one morning her daughter went to
where they used as a bathroom for the village and was attacked by a drunkard. Nobody
should have to feel unsafe when they are doing their personal business. The
woman stood up and pleaded for help and her plead was answered. A group of
people came to her village and installed a small bathroom with a toilet next to
her home. Now she won’t fear for her children’s safety when taking care of
their hygiene. Unfortunately this can’t be done to all those who need
bathrooms. Reason being that for installing a proper flush toilet takes up to
much water that these rural villages might not have. It also affects the environment
with all the human waste going into rivers and oceans which circulate all the diseases
that make these very same villagers sick. A foundation has started to figure
out how to create bathrooms that does not require the complicated sewage system
that our current toilets have. Another
foundation is trying to see who can come up with a proper way to reuse our
waste into a type of energy. For now we have no defined solutions but as we
keep progressing we are sure to find one soon.
Very good writing Amanda. Remember to check your spelling.
