Challenges of being an Immigrant

Being born in a country and having citizenship is something most people take for granted. People who have citizenships of a certain country are considered to be part of the country and can have all of the rights the constitution offers. This for some is taken for granted since they never had to migrate to another country. Immigrants, on the other hand, have to go through a long process of requesting visas and being eligible to comply with the standards and regulations the country requests. People who are immigrants usually move from their homelands to seek better lives and more opportunities. Usually, most of these people perform tasks that nobody wants to perform such as the Mexican migrants in the Baja-California region where they work minimum wages collecting foods from fields for ten hours a day or the Haitians that flood the Dominican Republic looking for jobs such as construction or looking for more affordable consumer goods. Migrants such as the Haitians in the Dominican Republic cross the borders illegally without papers and  risk their lives to being deported back to their country. For the Haitians it's simple to cross the border, since between the Dominican Republic and Haiti the border is certain areas are not monitored by authorities and where the migration offices are present it is easy for the Haitians to cross since these guards are extremely corrupt and will receive any small contributions. But then there's the correct type of immigration, applying for legal migration to a country. For example, when students graduate high school in the Dominican Republic, these students apply to colleges outside the country such as in the United States, Europe and Canada. In order to go to college, the students must complete a tedious, long process to apply to a visa in order to study there legally. This is the part of immigration that is considered as optional, but being a refugee is not considered voluntary. Being a refugee means that you are leaving your country because of a conflict like a civil war or natural disaster. A refugee has to endure multiple hardships  such as escape the country the live in and risk their lives to being captured and tortured such as in Libya. If they manage to escape the country, they have to adapt to the new culture and language in the new country they arrived at and complete the citizenship process that may take years to complete.  Honestly, being an immigrant in general is hard, since you have to adapt to the new country as best as you can and if you managed to enter the country illegally there is more pressure because you have to avoid being deported.
