Borders
Immigration, a topic very popular right now in our country and around the world. This week in our current events class we discussed Immigration, we learned about the different rules that correspond to different countries around the world. Jus sanguinis and jus solis are the two most common and basic rules to nationalization, of course each country decides which one they want or might even have a mix of the two. These two rules are what cause a lot of discussion when it comes to immigration, if they are fair or not. During this cycle we have come to realize why people migrate to other places, either they are looking for a better life or for whatever reason they have to leave their country. People's lives and people's stories are the things we tend to forget when talking about immigration and that is why we are so quick to judge the people who cross borders illegally. Quite frankly immigration and politics are not my best subjects but, in my opinion we have to consider the reasons people migrate before making rules and laws against it. Ms. Costales showed us Australia and how they deal with it and i though it was great, more counties should learn from the place down under.
Yeah, there seems to be debate over jus sanguinis vs jus solis. I personally don't have a particular preference with either of them, but I think the most important concept is to give immigrants a fair, humane treatment and treat them as people.
ReplyDeleteIsn't the world made of immigrants though? Immigration is important; through it the world keeps changing, evolving. Missing 89 words Diego...that is almost 1/3 of the blog. Please do a word count before posting. Thank you.
