Immigration
This week during current events we
discussed about immigration. Immigration happens all around the world, for some
countries it can be beneficial but for others not. Some negative impacts of
immigration can produce overcrowding or drug trafficking. In the other hand
positive impacts can be that migrant workers often work longer hours and for
lower salaries, although this can sometimes be controversial it benefits the country.
Most people migrate to other countries
for their own good, for example a person might migrate for a better job
opportunity or simply in hope of a better future. In my country there is a huge
immigration of Haitians to the Dominican Republic. This mainly happened during 2010
after the earthquake. The earthquake left Haiti devastated and with scarce
resources to live with. Many migrated to the Dominican Republic in hope for a
better future and to be able to maintain their family. Dominicans helped
Haitians when most in need but now there is a huge population of Haitians
putting legal residents to struggle. For the reason that immigration was
becoming a problem in the Dominican Republic, a law was placed into action where
undocumented immigrants registered with the Dominican Republic have to have
their citizenship reinstated or else return to their country. As a result,
hundred of thousands of Haitian living in the Dominican Republic, even those
who had never set foot in Haiti, were stripped of their citizenship. In conclusion,
immigration will always be a problem for some countries around the world but we
will have to able to establish an agreement in order to peacefully coexist.
