It's incredibly painful to see people dying because of lack of clean water. To think that everyday I wake up and I go flush my toilet and brush my teeth with water that some people in India have never had access to. I probably pee on water that a child could be drinking, but instead is dying because of hygienic issues. All this is especially powerful and painful to take in because it's literally fate. I was just born in to a family where I never need to worry about that, but I could just have easily been born as the daughter of the Indian woman who had the courage to build a toilet. Most of the time we think about how the world is evolving and we are helping people and abolishing issues yet every once in a while you come across stories like these. Stories that are incoherent with how we perceive the world to be. Progress is what you make of it and how you transform it, and yes in some aspects we are progressing but we are closing our minds to solving issues that are part of basic human needs. How are we supposed to evolve if people don't have clean water? How are humans supposed to create a better tomorrow if half of them are dying from hunger? I'm infinitely glad that the Global Goals are in place and I really hope they follow through with the 17 goals. We need more people to step up and make a change, we need more people to follow those people who step up. We need people to make a ripple effect and change the world. We need people.

  1. Nice thoughts Carla. I like how you tied our conversations this week with your own voice. I also enjoyed the empathy portrayed in your writing. Good job!
