Impact of Gender Roles in Society

In the twenty-first century, gender is a topic that cannot be ignored. It's everywhere, and both sexes are represented very differently. This portrayal of the two gender in different ways brings up problems with inequality and abuse of the beauty ideals. Males, in general are portrayed as strong, masculine and rich, while females are portrayed as inferior to men in the media by being shown sexually or being controlled by a male counterpart. These portrayals by the media showcases multiple problems in society. For both sexes this causes mental problems such as not being confident in the natural beauty they are born with. This causes a false sense of insecurity and makes the person weak against the advertisements since they want to fit in with the current standards of beauty.  The people who make this advertisements abuse of this gap of insecurities and target buyers in a way believing that if they buy their products they will become “beautiful”. The ways that the advertisements show males and females have correlations of sexual-violence. These advertisements that display females sexually cause strains in the population of men to become sexually abusive or make they discriminate the female gender, while on the other hand men are shown as powerful and having control of the situation. This makes people think in general that only females can be sexually abused but in truth, both sexes can be sexually abused or discriminated by their appearance. Besides sexual abuse, the portrayal of genders in different ways causes other side effects in society. Because the sexes are seen differently, other problems surge in society. One clear example is the idea of the roles in society each gender has. Males are shown as the ones who are responsible of maintaining the family while females are shown as the ones who take care of the household. This causes different ideals of the gender roles and affects the future of certain circumstances such as equal pay.  In the US, a  working in the same job as a man, will only receive seventy percent of the salary just because she is female. This definitely has to change since in terms of metal and physical ability, both male and females are capable of competing tasks equally.
