Gender Issues
In this unit we took the time to discuss a very serious issue that has been part of our world. For centuries, males and females have been separated into various aspects, where frequently females are portrayed as less important or efficient. For example, salaries for males are substantially higher than a female's wage. Women have clearly proved they can think and contribute to our society the same way or even better than a male. Women are often used as an image due to their attractive physical appearances to advertise an item which has nothing to do with how the female is being portrayed. In sports women have demonstrated they can be as skilled as any other male as you can see in the WNBA, the Women’s World Cup, and more. Hillary Clinton was the first female candidate to run for president against a male candidate. Many people didn’t believe she was well suited for that job due to the fact she was a women not a man. Very commonly female models are photoshopped to make them slimmer, or eliminate any body part containing a bit of fat. This makes the world of modeling fake and inaccurate since you are seeing a totally different person in the magazine or in TV. Males are always viewed as the strong and dominating gender of the world. Men occasionally are also used to advertise items, brands, clothes, etc. The problem is they don’t choose a normal average guy, in this case they select one with a “perfect body” so you feel attracted when seeing the advertisement, magazine, commercial for the first time. Males and females are not in a position to be in an unequal state. The only difference is our physical appearances and that's how the rest of the world should see it.
