Current Events Reflection

During current events class, I learned a lot about issues the world is currently facing. In this class, one specific thing I learned was the use adequate information databases. I applied my use of social media for education. With tweeter, which I had never used before, I got minute updates on news in the entire world depending on the accounts I followed. During our discussions of Islam Fundamentalism and terrorism, I became more aware of the Muslim people and their religion. With this discussion, I have become a more understanding and accepting person since the beliefs of Islam are kind of different to those of Christianity. When we discussed gender equality I learned that I need to fight for my rights, that any woman can do the same things as a man(cliche). I learned that in fact, unconsciously I am part of this change. At my gym I go to, there are basketball practices and everyone was surprised when I started to attend because it was mostly boys. Now I am part of the group, the coach tells them I am kind of the captain, he is a very nice and kind guy. At times, I get mad because I don't get passed the ball, and some of the guys say, "Chill it's not because of how you play, it's just because we couldn't pass it, you play even better than I do." But, I stay humble I don't like to think like that. But something I have learned is that women have to fight to get the respect they deserve. At first, it may be hard, just like for me when I started  going to practice. But at the end you inspire people, this class has helped me embrace myself, and that I can be part of the change.
