Gender Inequality

Did you know that women with full-time jobs still earn only about 77 percent of their male counterparts’ earnings? Gender inequality is a real issue, that we are still fighting in mid twenty first century. A fight that many find absurd, is actually real step back not only for females, but humans. It is not fair for women to get paid less than men, for the SAME job just because they have a vagina. Furthermore, according to a study performed by the Business Insider, women are a whopping 15% less likely than men to get promoted. Women are thought to be inferior because they 'lack' emotional stability, due to mood swings and hormones, and are also destined to stay at home taking care of the children.  First of all, a mom and a dad are both equally important in a family. They both are the baby's parents, and share equal custody. Therefore, both men and women have the equal right to work, or stay at home. Society does not dictate how the 'perfect' family functions. Moreover, after various discussions in class, I discovered that men are not the only ones contributing to the patriarchal view that dominates the world. But our own gender, females, have part of the fault. They, on their own, fail to realize their potential and capability. Women have to be reminded that they are not what society wants them to be: condescending little barbies, but powerful, strong, and admirable human beings. Empowerment starts from within. That is why it is important to rise young girls in positive environments, and not limit them. Remember, the rise of women DOES NOT mean the fall of men.
