Social Progress Index Dominican Republic
Every country's growth and progress is measured by social progress index. This is something that is newer to the world and was started not long ago. Many people confuse a country's social index with it's gross domestic product or GDP. To be clear, gross domestic product, measures a country's economic spendings and social progress index, measures a country's development and progress. Social progress index focuses on three major issues of a country which are basic human needs, foundations of wellbeing, and opportunity. If you take all the countries in the world and take out an average of social progress index, you get 61 (out of 100). The Dominican Republic is currently in 62.47, a number which surprised me a very much. It is currently the 77th country with regards to highest social progress index. I expected it to be lower than that. According to Social Progress Imperative, the Dominican Republic is highest in foundations of wellbeing (out of the three major categories), but it is lowest in opportunity. I think that if the number of opportunity (50.65) goes up, then we will be in a much better position compared to other countries. To improve opportunity in the Dominican Republic, I think education needs to improve drastically. The majority of kids in the country go to public schools with very little resources and very low level teachers. Only the wealthy people are able to afford an advanced education for their children and the problem is that the wealthy only make up about 1% of the 10 million people in the Dominican Republic. The other low number is personal safety under basic human needs. The number is 32.95. This country is one of the countries where walking on the streets is dangerous. The deployment of more police officers to the streets will lower the chances of assault and murder in the streets.
I liked that you offer a solution. Well done!
