Social Progress Index- MG
Recently, every country in the world are being measured by their ability to innovate, human needs, foundation of well being, opportunity, and many more. This is a great initiative because it shows what countries around the globe have to work on in order to improve the lives of their own citizens.
When people think of social progress index they might relate it to the GDP of the country or how much better the economy is doing, but in fact this is not more than the opposite. This measures the issues the country is facing and the opportunity for improvement that is seen in the country being evaluated. I believe that government around the globe should look at all these evaluations because they will certainly find matters of improvement in their country.
Looking into this website which gives all the grades to all the countries, I looked over my own country, the Dominican Republic. I found very intriguing facts, in fact, in places I thought we would be awful, it turned out to be the exact opposite, we are best at the foundations of well being. Furthermore we are good in opportunity as well, and normal in the Social Progress Index. There are places where we can substantially improve such as Personal rights, and access to education. In these 2 sectors is where more focus has to be put on so we can improve as a country.
Comparing my country to Colombia, which is a Latin American country I found many astonishing facts. Since Colombia is a much more developed country that we are, they are surpassing us in the majority of the categories in which countries are evaluated. The only sector were Colombia has to improve on is in the personal safety. Many homicides happen in this country and the government should work on improving this for the citizens own good.
