Reflection
For this semester, I chose to take this class so that I could be more aware of global issues that are happening around the world with the effective use of social media. The advent and development of social media have a huge impact on our daily lives, because media is everywhere. So as we learned in this class we should take advantage of various opportunities social media gives us. I believe it’s significant for us to fully understand what we are confronting and what we should do in the near future as a responsible global citizen. Francois Hollande once stated that we have a single mission: to protect and hand on the planet to the next generation. I think this quote represents what we have been doing in current events class, because we have touched all the urgent global issues that can later lead to severe consequences and faced the challenge of keeping pace and being up-to-date with the latest trends, technologies and issues.
Even though many people didn’t enjoy watching ted-talks I liked it. After watching inspiring ted-talks, I was able to have a better understanding of the issue from the professionals’ point of view. Moreover, I liked the documentaries too. The documentary “Miss Representation” made me think about how women have been discriminated based on their sexuality and appearance especially in workplace. I also liked posting pictures and sharing news with others. Instead of just looking for random pictures on google, taking pictures that represent the issue we are working on by ourselves was helpful.
After this class, I came to a conclusion that being ignorant in the presence of media in this day and age is outrageous. We have access to an astonishing amount of information every minute through media. Therefore, I want to take advantage of media and later educate people by uncovering veiled facts or threads running through many lives as a responsible citizen.
