Cowspiracy Reflection
In Media Literacy and Current Events class we had the opportunity to watch a documentary called Cowspiracy, which is an environmental documentary about Kip Andersen, who is a filmmaker, and his course of actions to address the effects of cattle on the environment around different places of the United States and the world. In the documentary, Kip travels around the United States to talk to different environmental organizations that address problems like water consumption, deforestation, pollution, and most greatly, global warming, which is caused by the releasing of greenhouse gases. At the start of the documentary, Kip investigated that the major cause for global warming on earth is animal agriculture, or cattle, and how the number of greenhouse gases caused by animal agriculture outnumbers the greenhouse gases created by any transportation industry. In the course of the documentary, Kip realizes that environmental organizations, that are powerhouses around the world, either can't seem to know how to address this problem, ignore Kip’s questions about this problem, or don't address this problem at all. This mind blows Kip and leaves him completely stunned, since he can't seem to understand why these powerhouse organizations, which their main goal is to eliminate environmental problems, don't have any plan or even and initiative to address the problem of animal agriculture and its astonishing effect on global warming. As Kip keeps on visiting different organizations and asking them questions and investigating about this problem, he discovers that these environmental organizations intentionally refuse to answer any of Kip’s questions relating to animal agriculture and its effects on global warming. In my opinion, I think that this problem should be addressed by all of the environmental organizations around the world, since it has been proven that this is the major cause for creating greenhouse gases, and if this problem is not addressed, the world will keep on getting damaged and we will all suffer the consequences. I feel like we all need to put some effort or find a way to contribute to solve this problem. There are a number of organizations that serve as guides for any people to contribute easily, and believe it or not, if we all join together and give our effort to solve this problem, anything can be done and solved.
