Overview of the Quarter

In the class of Current Events, I have learnt a global perspective of what's happening in the world. The class was good since it told me about the problems the world is enduring today, such as the global warming and the need for implementing greener technologies to limit the human impact on earth. Ms. Costales told us about the seventeen Global-goals that the Gates family is trying to find a solution to. The foundation of Global goals focus is to help reduce the lack of people who have unfair advantages such as lack of education and medical aid. They set up a goal to decrease seventeen problems the world is enduring and solve it by the year 2025. In Current events we learned how to avoid accessing fake news, which is a phenomenon that greatly impacts the world. Today, people are getting certain news from reputable news sites, such as scam web sites and the fake news that everyone shares on Facebook. She told us how to manage such sites and direct ourselves to more reputable sources such as the New York Times or the Telegraph. Finally, we learned which was the main source of pollution in the world, agriculture. In the world, the majority of the forested lands are used for the production of agriculture.  The main culprit is the cow farming. These animals can create gases, called methane, that pollute the air and raise the carbon dioxide levels. Thus the cow farming is not a sustainable source of food since it requires way too much materials for the growth, it is better to stick to a more eco-friendly diet such as  going vegan or vegetarian. This class has been very helpful to show us the current state of the world and how to guide us to solve these problems. In the next quarter I would like the class to take focus on how to address the problems and how we can create an impact on a local level.
