Quarter 1 Reflection
Quarter 1 Reflection
This quarter in my Media Literacy and Current Events class we did a number of interesting things that I have greatly enjoyed and learned many things from these. Even Though I entered this class late in the quarter, I have managed to keep up with the class and work to my full potential to be able to succeed in this course. First of all, we started the quarter off with a blog that we published on Blogger, which was a small biography about ourselves, were we informed Ms. Costales who were we, what do we like to do, what do we enjoy on a regular basis, and the reason we took this class. Later on the quarter, we had the opportunity to complete an activity called “Google Apps for Dummies,” in which we learned how to use all of the Google Applications such as Drive, Docs, Presentation, Spreadsheets, Gmail, Chrome, and many more. I think that this activity helped me in a massive way since it taught me how to use the basic elements and tools for this class, which has helped me a lot. The unit that we covered next was the Goalkeeper unit, in which we learned about an organization called the Global Goals, where many world icons have proposed to eliminate the world’s biggest problems, such as hunger, poverty, health and well being, education, and many more. In this unit we had the opportunity to choose one out of the seventeen Global Goals and brainstorm how we are going to address this goal and how are we going to form part of the goalkeepers for this goal. Another topic we covered in class was Child Mortality, in which we made a small paragraph about what is child mortality, its effects, and how is it being addressed by Bill and Melinda Gates. One of the last units we covered in this class was watching a documentary called Cowspiracy, which talked about how animal agriculture is the major producer of greenhouse gasses, which is the major cause of global warming, and the fact that this problem is not being addressed by any environmental organizations. We also completed a blog for this, were we explained the documentary in detail and talked about our thoughts and opinions about this problem. For last, our last assignment for this class was creating an infographic about something I found interesting, and I chose talking about the Coca Cola company. I really enjoyed this assignment, since it was interesting, challenging, and fun to do. Overall, I think this was a great quarter for Media Literacy and Current Events and I look forward on spending another quarter in this class.
