Legalization of Drugs
Recently the debate over the legalization of drugs has been sparked, specifically marijuana. But with the increasing efforts for the legalization of marijuana the increase in the opposition have increased as well. In my opinion I really do not care either way what happens in this matter. I do not feel a strong pull to either side like others do. On one side marijuana is not too harmful like cocaine of heroin but is classified as a class 1 drug. Whatever the reason, the fact that it is still classified as such says a lot. I believe that medicinally it has a lot of potential and has been proven to help certain ailments. In extreme cases I believe that marijuana should be available if all other options are exhausted. However, I also believe that before it can become legalized it should be thoroughly tested. There is still a lot of things unknown about marijuana and we need to have all the information before we can take any drastic action. But I do not agree with the argument that because it grows naturally it should be legal. For me that is a weak argument and should not be accepted as a valid point.
When considering the decriminalization of drugs in general I am still undecided but lean towards an opposed stance. I believe that unless we have the resources to provide care for the addicted and deal with the outcome of the action we should not do anything unless we are prepared to deal with it. Moreover a lot of drugs are incredibly addictive and harmful and should not be legal in my view.
