Immigration
An immigrant is someone from a foreign country who moves to live in another country. Some immigrants become legal in the country but others do not. Those who are not legal usually do not have the documents necessary and are known as undocumented immigrant. They usually sneak across the borders and go through a dangerous journey. Others have legitimate visas and overstay. Individuals are motivated to migrate to another country because they are looking for a better life. They are escaping persecution, poverty, trying to find better working opportunities, move to live with the family, and after marriage. Refugees and asylum seekers are different from the larger immigrant population because they migrate due to fear and for improvement of their lives. This people usually come from places where there is war or persecution. An asylum seeker is a person who requested protection as a refugee, but has not yet been assessed. Every refugee has at some point been an asylum seeker. Asylum seekers who are refugees are given international protection and assistance. Those who are not refugees, can be sent back to their country of origin. Usually the government determines who qualifies to stay or to leave. To stay in the country each immigrant needs the requirements to be considered eligible. Those who need the help must be accepted, unless the person has a past that could be dangerous for the country.
