Shared Future
An immigrant is a person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country. And today, immigration and asylum has become an increasingly controversial topic. Worldwide, there is an estimated 191 million migrants; where 115 live in developed countries. However, what happens when the other 76 million direct themselves to underdeveloped countries? they “are ten of thousands of undocumented immigrants in the Dominican Republic” where the majority are Haitians. And many of them lack valid passports and other identification papers from their home countries. The Dominican Republic and Haiti are both countries that could use international help from other countries. However, we are expected by most that surround is to give asylum. For instance, In November 2014, “the Inter-American Court of Human Rights issued a scathing ruling condemning the Dominican government for violating 11 articles of the American Convention on Human Rights” (foreign policies)This situation damages both economies drastically. According to foreign policies, an estimate of 500 million a year comes into effect. Even though, it is evident we are better off than Haiti, something must be done. With the support of foreign countries, maybe the Dominican Republic and Haiti will be able to accomplish a more successful, peaceful, and shared future.
