Immigration in the DR

As an American born, but permanent Dominican resident I know what being an immigrant is. I have been directly affected by it. My grandfather, from Havana, Cuba emigrated to the United States as a young man, and my grandmother, from Cali, Colombia also emigrated to the US, to search for better opportunities. However, I have been a lucky immigrant, for there are others who have suffered greatly to search for a new future, be free, or be with their loved ones. Actually here in the DR we face issues with this topic. As we all know our neighboring country Haiti has gone through a lot, so a lot of its citizens like to move to this side. Obviously they do this in pursuit of jobs, or to give birth to their kids. The things is, most of them come without documentation, and that part is completely unacceptable. What is sad though is those Haitians who have lived their whole life here, and are being deported because their parents who brought them here are/were illegal. It is unfair that this is happening to people who help our economy by working in constructions, taking care of babies, and selling fruits. Immigration is something that helps all countries, as well as it can hurt them if it isn’t happening in a controlled and organized matter. Which is what is happening to our country with illegal Haitians coming in every single day.
