Nature vs. Humanity
“Humanity is on a collision course with nature”
I spent my last week in Ecuador in the Global Issues Network
Conference. At this conference students presented global issues that concerned
them, and they were passionate about. Most of the projects were focused on
climate change. This is where I noticed that climate change still is an issue. This
was something that ironically I had not thought of in a while, an issue that
each day becomes more urgent, but each day seems less of a worry within those
who cause it. We watch a film called, Nature
Doesn’t Need People, People Need Nature. This film was very interesting
because it was addressing the fact that ultimately nature does not need
humanity, it can thrive without us. But the most alarming aspect of this realization
is that we do in fact need nature, and we are not giving it the value it
deserves. The video showed nature in all its beauty and entirety. It was magnifying
but at the same time it was very scary. I felt overpowered by nature as I watched
the film. I feel like this is a very powerful feeling, and we have reached a
point in where awareness is not enough, but fear should be used to finally make
humans realize the mess we have gotten ourselves into.
