Summary of Learning
Current events has been the highlight of my second semester this school year. It is always important to be aware of what is happening with the world you're surrounded with. In current events, I had the opportunity to discuss prominent and controversial issues of today. For instance: gender inequality, the legalization of marihuana, poverty, pollution, and more. We also watched many TED talks, although most of them were extremely boring, a few caught my attention. However, the documentaries were very interesting, like the one of the girl that suffered from seizures and marihuana saved her, will always stay with me. I even discussed it with my mom when I got home. Furthermore, I really enjoyed looking for cool pictures to post on Instagram, and writing 160 word opinions on Twitter. I think that what I disliked the most was the Ted Talk charts and the blogs. Although, some topics were very easy to write about and complete 250 words, some of them were complicated to write about. In my opinion, I think Ms. Costales should give four blogs per semester, and give students the freedom to choose the topics they want to write about. Additionally, my favorite part of the class, were the class discussions and debates. Ms. Costales should give grades for our discussions, and how well we present our ideas. In conclusion, the current events class, was a success, it was simple but rewarding. The knowledge you absorb in this class, is not book knowledge, but knowledge about daily life, and important values and morals that will forever stay with you. If I could, I would take current events with Ms. Costales again.
Thank you Leslie!
