Summary of Learning
Our lives are shaped by current events, some more than others but they always have their effect. In this class, we learned, analysed and discussed; all necessary tools in this world. All topics were touched and minds expanded. I found this class very interesting and its content moving, more than once I shed a tear. At home I’d share what we'd discussed and begin a conversation with my family. We watched documentaries and movies, all interesting and educational. There was one particular, Miss Representation, on gender inequality and sexism in the media. I loved it so much, I sat my father down and forced him to watch it. Its message resonated with me and it made think back and I realized I myself had been objected. I enjoyed our active class discussions during which I grew closer to my classmates and learned about their views, values and beliefs. Sometimes they were rowdy but this only intensified the meaning of our conversation. Marijuana was a controversial topic this semester. We watched a documentary detailing its medical powers and the drug wars, generally it exposed its impact on society and politicians reactions. Later we read articles and discussed, towards the end we were assigned a blog to post. Now I feel much more aware and educated on the subject and am confident in my ability to defend my stand. This class was a safe space for students, we came in and our beloved teacher Ms. Costales greeted us with hugs and we all felt at home.
Thank you Malala...you did a great job in class (except for late blogs but oh well)! :)
