Gender Issues
Gender Equality is the state in which access to rights or opportunities is unaffected by gender. I believe this is very true, but its not present in our society. Many say that women and men are the same but we are actually not, physically or mentally. Men tend to be stronger in different area than women. The Dominican Republic a small island located in the Caribbean suffers strongly of gender inequality. Women are seen as minority here, man get paid a higher salary and most women don't even study. Something that happens very often here is that women are abused physically by men. They are sometimes beat up for no reason or just because they talked back at their husband. An also very common problem in the DR due to gender inequality is prostitution, because many of these young ladies can't get the proper education of even a job offer they have to sell their bodies in order to maintain family. A problem that leads to this is young ladies having more kids that the ones they can maintain believing that there kids will maintain them after when they grow up. There is a stereotype in the Dominican Republic that if your women doesn't know how to cook she isn't good enough, also In my opinion this is very wrong, women can be the head of the family and can also be the one who produces while the Man can be the one cooking and cleaning, a "house Dad", had to find in the DR.
