Summary of Learning

With an ever-changing world, it 's hard to understand what is happening at times. Current events have cleared this confusion throughout the semester by reviewing different issues every week. Most problems were controversial such as legalization of marijuana, gender issues, and immigration. This led us to have intriguing debates and conversation about our opinions. The discussions allowed us to improve our public speaking skills and listening skills. It was hard sometimes to stay quiet and listen to my classmate's opinions that differed with mine. I believed that the views had to be corrected, however, I quickly learned that not all beliefs were the same. Some people are pro-life and others pro-choice. Some people want to legalize recreational marijuana others only want to legalize medical cannabis. This class taught me that it was okay to have a different opinion as long as we were not judging others or what they believed in. Being an open minded individual is something that helps when participating in this class. Another skill that I improved in this class is my writing. After every issue, we must reflect and elaborate our opinions in a minimum 250 words blog. This enhanced our writing skills from grammar to planning to eloquence. Furthermore, our research skills improved drastically. Every week we had to find a new current event to share with the class. Many times it involved President Trump and his daily activities, but that was not every subject. Overall, this class was extremely helpful, for it allowed us to develop many different skills from research to debate. I loved Current Events, but above all, I loved Ms. Costales.
