Global Citizens
According to Global Citizens Initiative, a “global citizen is someone who identifies with being part of an emerging world community and whose actions contribute to building this community’s values and practices.” (Israel) Identities come together to share and communicate one global identity to represent our entire community. I see myself as a global citizen because, within my own community, I try to be the best that I can be in promoting safe healthy practices and values. Small things we do now, later accumulate, and the change that we have caused starts to be noticeable. In order to save our planet, we not only have to take care of the environment (which is a very important matter at the moment), but also act as active participants in spreading ideas that will strengthen our relations nationally and internationally. We need to sponsor ideas such as those that might discriminate minority groups in our society, among others. The world is a magnificent place. Our environment is now suffering due to our actions and industries. We MUST be responsible citizens and act upon these injustices, and try to right them before it is too late. Most of us on the path to global citizenship are still somewhere at the beginning of our journey. Now, our eyes have finally come open and our consciousness alert. Instinctively, we feel a connection with others around the world yet we lack the adequate tools, resources, and support to act on our vision. So in order to feed our conscious hunger, we must take the time and effort to make these connections possible and viable. Let's all be responsible and global citizens!
