Legalization of Marijuana
Drugs are tricky, they are everywhere, some are dangerous but most can serve a purpose when used with moderation. Marijuana is natural and non-toxic unlike most medicines found at the drugstores that are packed with toxins. This organic substance has been proven to help with many illnesses, including chronic pain, cancer, epilepsy, glaucoma, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's, etc. Considering all these benefits it's hard to imagine there being a lack of research but there is. Strict laws born from the drug war make it very difficult for scientist to actually do any research. Medicines are expensive, addictive, overwhelming to the system and many times it doesn't even help the sick. Criminalizing marijuana serves no true purpose besides enriching the police and drug cartels. It damages the relationships between law enforcement and civilians, creates illegal smuggling and the violence and harm to the communities that come with it, and makes it hard for the sick to get natural relief at a reasonable price. Lawmakers need to step up and place their conservative agenda aside, look at the facts and understand that marijuana is in no way worse than alcohol or cigarettes. There has not been one person to ever die from an overdose of this substance. Millions die every year from opioid addiction and they’re still legal. It is unjust and unreasonable to deny a patient a joint but recommend them multiple pills which can cause you even more harm and leave you in debt. We need to stand up and fight for those who need relief from their pain and those who have lost so much due to this senseless drug war.
