#13 Climate Action

Ever since I can remember, there has always been the imminent and looming threat of global warming everywhere I went. It could be found in the conversations of others, in the classroom, or in the media, there was simply no escaping. Growing up in the twenty-first century, the constant reminder that our world is so polluted that the ozone layer in the atmosphere is being destroyed has always left a strong impression on me. On top of that, school never fails to show us countless documentaries, sending the very obvious message: fix this. Even though it's easy to distance yourself from the issue by saying that it's in a future we will not be alive to see, or that it's someone else's responsibility, I believe that immediate action is necessary. And so that is why I have chosen to work on global goal #13: Climate Action. Protecting the environment matters a lot to me. As a very determined, "type A" person, I believe that I can get a lot done to contribute to climate action. As an individual there are many choices we make every day that greatly affect the environment. The simplest and most impactful decision we make is about our diet. The easiest way to make a positive impact on the environment is changing your diet. My goal to help the environment, therefore, will be to successfully maintain a mostly plant-based diet. This will help cut back all the resources necessary to raise livestock and cut back on the methane released by cows.
