An End to Inequality
It's 2017 and yet we’re still fighting the same battle. Inequality is a hot topic for many but to me it’s simple, we all are humans, we all bleed, think and feel, so why do some still insist in putting some above others? There are many types of inequality, there is gender, racial, and income, and are experienced all around the world. Recently a light has been shined on these ever existent issues particularly because of the US elections. There were many like Bernie Sanders who spoke up on the wealth gap and how the middle class is dying due to income inequality. Feminism has experienced a sort of rebirth and in a way has become “trendy” with celebrities like Beyonce and Emma Watson campaigning for gender equality. Most important race has become a divisive and tense subject, some even feel racial relationships haven’t been this bad since the Civil Rights Movement. A new concept has even been developed named “white privilege”, it denotes both obvious and less obvious passive advantages that white people may not recognize they have, which distinguishes it from overt bias or prejudice. These include cultural affirmations of one's own worth; presumed greater social status; and freedom to move, buy, work, play, and speak freely. Now all this can lead to controversy but most important it leads to unity and action. The Global Goals has set up certain guidelines to end Inequality, and by 2030 it is the goal to empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status. Together through activism I believe we can be able to achieve this goal.
It's important to acknowledge that even though developed countries have progressed a lot, inequality still exists and is present in society.
