The Importance of Water
The lack of sufficient water or access to safe, sanitary water is commonly referred to as water scarcity. Most of us, in our school specifically, take water for granted. We constantly take long, 40 minute showers, leave the water running when brushing our teeth and constantly misuse water. It may seem like nothing to us, but water is like a precious gem which we, the human race, depend on. Without it, we would be non-existent, all dead and decaying. In the developing world, including countries like the Dominican Republic, finding a good, fresh, safe source of water is is both time consuming and extremely expensive. In other different areas, the lack of water is a much bigger situation. There simply isn't enough to go around, this is known as physical scarcity. The problem regarding water scarcity is quickly growing. Your school, group or even a little as a few friends can make a tremendous difference! Start a Fundraiser, raise awareness, start school campaigns, there is so much you can do to help your community be more cautious of water and how to use it in a smart and effective way. Many schools create competitions in which students submit artwork relating to an important global issue and the winner get to have their design displayed all over their school. Imagine if all the schools in the Dominican Republic did just the same, it would create an impact on the community. Small things like this could really give awareness for the subject a push. For this reason, I challenge you to raise awareness in your own unique way in both your school, household and community, so that in time the word reached all corners of the globe and together, we can all stop water scarcity.
