Gender Will Unite Us

For too long have women been considered the inferior gender. Patriarchy has ruled over cultures for centuries; it's ludicrous that it's still prominent in many countries. Women are still receiving less money than their male counterparts. Women are still being trafficked and exploited for their bodies. Girls are still being married too young. People just assume that the world is becoming a better place day by day, but this is not the reality. It is 2016 and gender is still dividing the world. There must be an equal playing field for everyone. The United Nations considered this their fifth global goal out of seventeen. By 2030, they want the entire female population to be recognized as equal to the male populous. It has been proven that countries move forward into the developed sector when they acknowledge women and their vast potential in all fields. Wasn't it Mary Cury who recognized the dangers of Mercury? Wasn't Queen Elizabeth one of the most beloved and successful monarchs in English history? What about Eleanor Roosevelt or Mother Teresa? What would the Dominican Republic look like today if the Mirabal Sisters did not fight against Trujillo's dictatorship? However, the most extraordinary of all are those who are not well-known. The women who demand the eradication of the pink tax. The ones who strive to break the glass ceiling. The ones who work towards reproductive rights. These are just some ways people are helping reach this goal. Another one would be campaigning. Many people are not aware of the issue or just simply do not understand it. So, before we fix it, we must understand it. After that, we can start demanding change. By getting the word out and correcting the erroneous norm, the global community can finally achieve gender equality.

  1. I like how you start your topic by using historical evidence of gender inequality.
