Water For All

Water is a component of life. In order to survive we all need it. Last week, in class we talked about the lack of clean water in some regions of the world. Often, women are the ones tasked with collecting the water they use. 6 hours. 6 hours is the time it takes a women daily to gather the water they need. 6 hours that they will not get back and time they could have spent studying. I believe that this to be something horrible. In average, a human being can survive 3 weeks with food but since the 60% of the adult human body is made up of water a human being can only last up to a week without it. Because of this it is evident that water is a basic human need. And as a direct result of the scarcity of water women are deprived of education. A simple solution for this problem is to offer water in schools for the students. One of the reasons for the lack of clean water is the waste of it by the people who do have easy access to it. Approximately 22 gallons of water are wasted per person in the U.S. That adds up to up to 7 billion gallons of water a day that are wasted and that someone else could be using. I also waste an incredible amount of water and you probably do too. When you turn on the shower you are using up to 5 gallons per minute of running water. From now on I will try to use the least water possible and to star I will take shorter showers. Everyone should make an effort so that there is enough water for all.
