No Poverty

I choose the global goal one. One for no poverty. Did you know that 836 million people still live in extreme poverty and about one in five people in developing regions live on less than one dollar and twenty-five cents. I chose this specific goal because of how it affects us here in the Dominican Republic. Most of the population is made up by underprivileged people who live in poverty. These people live in houses which are inhabited by multiple families and are the size of a living room. Their tiny homes are made of whatever scrap material that can be found and whenever it rains the houses get flooded due to the lack of structure. Here the kids don’t go to school; they work, they crave and beg for basic necessities live water. When driving through the streets of the Dominican Republic and you look out your window and see kids around with deteriorating cloths asking you for whatever cents you have with you. and what we don’t know is the difference it does make for them, we think that because we only have ten pesos with us it wont make a difference, but in reality for them that is a great deal of money. In my opinion, all global goals are important, but to help better the others we need to start with changing poverty.

  1. I think that you did a very good job making this problem relatable and sympathetic.
