The Power of Water

Water is humans' most precious resource, but we must learn how to manage it. It is evident that humans rely heavily on water, the United Nations suggested that "each person needs about 5-13 gallons of water a day". This fact is astonishing because this reveals how dependent humans are to this resource.

The access to clean water is a vital factor because this simple requirement leads to sanitation and prevention of diseases. Together, as humans, we must make efforts to provide clean water to areas where access to water is not that accessible. It is very important to have clean water because it is an easy way to prevent diseases such as diarrhea, "the leading cause of illness and death". Education itself can be a solution this problem because future generation can be taught that simply washing your hands "can reduce water-related deaths by 35%". A simple and effective way to address this situation is for governments to insists on a budget that can address the lack of education in areas vulnerable to inadequate water supply.

In addition, the problem of water can be traced back to the effects of climate change. For example, droughts are occurring more frequently so the access to water is become scarcer. Surprisingly, "Since 1900, more than 11 million people have died as a consequence of drought". These statistics are shocking and the least we can do as individuals is make a difference in our homes such as reducing food waste and water consumption. A big concern is the ammount of pollution related to water. Every day rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water get contaminated by wastewater. This may seem unharmful but this threatens health, food security and proper sanitation of people that rely on these bodies of water.

It is clear that the magnitude of this problem is beyond our reach but efforts have to come across in order to reduce water related problems. The world needs to reduce water consumption by a significant amount and reduce water waste in river that affect many humans. Finally, an effort in teaching future generations can prevent many diseases and people can be aware on how to get proper sanitation.
