Immigrants

Immigrants are people who leave their country because of different situations. There are many different types of Immigrants. For example there are illegal, legal, ones who leave for work, others who lives because of economical situations, and of course refugees amongst others. I think immigrants are very important for the countries they settle in. For example here in the Dominican Republic we are home to many Haitians. Majority of these Haitians work on the sugarcane plantations and construction sites. Without these Haitians our economy would be severely hurt. You might wonder why. Well because if they are not there in the field cutting the sugarcanes or in the construction building buildings, houses, among other things no one will do it. So as you may now sugarcane and construction companies are practically the most powerful, rich, and respected in the country and our economy is based on them so if they stop functioning so does our economy.

There is also the problem of illegal Haitians. The majority of the haitians workers and the ones you see in the streets are illegal. Some of them were born here but because of rules they don’t get their papers. Some simply flee Haiti to work in sugarcane fields and constructions but the government won’t give them documents because this way these companies are able to pay them less than minimum wage.
