Gender Equality #5
Goal Number Five: Gender Equality
I picked my global goal to be goal number five, "Gender Equality" I have always been very passionate about this issue. The idea that men and women have equal rights is an undeniable piece of knowledge that I personally believe to be quite obvious. I have created a social media campaign to fight misogyny online. I was inspired to do this when I saw Emma Watson's campaign launch in the UN in 2014. Her campaign is called "He for She" and it promoted equal rights for men and women. Watson has always been an idol of mine because of her activist ways. She is elegant, and speaks with conviction without losing her composure. This is a very important attribute to have when speaking against the cacophony of misogyny. To have a calm voice and an intelligent argument seems to be a sort of Trojan Horse in the battle for equal rights. This has influenced my desire to raise my voice and promote equal gender rights.
When launching my campaign, Damsel in A Cape I had all the intention of making an immediate change in the world. I underestimated the pressures of sexism already existing in the social media outlets. I am passionate about this issue but I've been proven that passion can only take you so far when tackling the enormous monster that is gender inequality.
Excellent cause and most importantly, love that you are actually doing something about it. Congrats!
