Forks Over Knives

Recently in class we saw a documentary which I found to be very interesting and eye opening, its name was Forks Over Knives It exposes the exploration done by biochemist Dr. T. Colin Campbell and cardiologist Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn where they discovered that people changing their diets from animal-based to plant-based can help eliminate or control diseases like cancer and diabetes. They traveled to Asia where the culture and food is much more healthy and studied their meal and health patterns and compared them to the modern American ones. Into factories they went and I saw the process meats went through to become the delicious hot dogs I devour. I haven’t had one since. Heart surgery was demonstrated and I squirmed like a child, that is something I truly hope to never go through. Doctors across America are beginning to experiment with diets as a replacement to pills, honestly it makes sense but if I was told  my life was in danger medicine would seem much more attractive than a cucumber. I think if you strictly follow a plant based diet you should do it as prevention and because you want to be healthy not because I might die. I wasn’t surprised with the results it seemed logical to me that by removing fatty animal products you’re life improved but later at home that day when I spoke to my dad about what I ad watched he seemed surprised and incredulous. This shocked me for I assumed everybody knew this but the reality is not everybody has the same access to information as I do. Now I understand why these documentary is important , so many people are in the dark when it comes to their health and not even their own government is trying to help them, it's the job of the creators and educators to enlighten all.
