Becoming responsible citizens with the Global Goals: Education

" The Global Goals for Sustainable Development" enlightens people by starting a move from all over the world to end poverty, combat climate change, fight injustice and inequality by 2030.
They put 17 different categories of world wide goals to encourage more responsible global citizens. Among 17 different goals, I think it’s important to provide quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for everyone (#4), because without education we will never be able to eradicate global issues and reach our potential.

I’ve been teaching disadvantaged children who don’t have access to technology how to use computer since last year through “Tech for the future”. In Dominican Republic, there are many students who don’t have quality education. So “Tech for the future” works together to educate those students and narrow the gap in education. Even though it is a step-by-step process I think dedication from organizations and schools like “Tech for the future” will help everyone have access to free, equitable and quality education. There is a new club in CMS called “Art is a start” . They will be volunteering at local schools to offer students many classes such as art, english and sports. I think this can also have a huge impact on promoting lifelong learning opportunities.

I believe there many ways we can attribute to make the world better with the Global Goals. Instead of being ignorant and inactive towards global issues, we should definitely take action and join movements or funds such as UNICEF, World Vision, UNDP, Global citizen and ONE. In addition, we can take advantage of social media to inform people. Just like what we did during class we can simply share the goals in conversation, in debate, on social media like instagram, twitter. By doing so, we would be able to successfully achieve the Global Goals and make it happen in a reality. We, as a responsible citizen, should put all of our effort on keeping up pace with latest global issues and problems we are facing and actively engage and commit to the goals.

By 2030, I hope everyone all over the world is able to get education and share the Global Goals for sustainable development.
