Did you know that more than 70% of the world is covered by
water? Yeah, that’s how important it is to us. Imagine a world without clean
water. How prone would we be to diseases, and how fast would they spread? Everyone
has a right to drink clean water, as it provides him or her with the daily
nutrients needed to survive. And if you can’t, you will simply die of thirst.
According
to Deepak Chopra, sanitation is a physical measure that has done more to
increase human life span than any other kind of drug or surgery. This is how
impactful clean water can be. And it’s even cheaper than a drug or a surgery!
I am amazed
at how hard it is for some people to afford clean water. People who live in dry
lands and cannot afford clean water have their lives in instant risk. Imagine
your life depends on a 20 peso plastic bottle that is sold in every colmado in
town. How must that feel? Of course, the common source of this and many other
issues is poverty. It is the root of this issue, and it could be considered to
be the most important one.
However,
The Global Goals Organization has chosen clean water and sanitation to be one of
its 17 goals to cure the world of its main obstacles. This has helped raise
awareness in the topic through celebrities and popular figures. By 2030, they plan
to
· Achieve universal and equitable access to safe and
affordable drinking water for all
· Achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and
hygiene for all,
· Improve water quality,
· Increase water-use efficiency,
· Protect and restore water-related ecosystems
A
project like this proves that a single group of people united can cause
movement of an ideal. Although one might consider these goals to be too
ambitious, they seem to be really confident in what they believe in, which is
something to be admired.
