Child Mortality(José Venta)
Child mortality is a huge issue. Most
deaths among children aged one to five years old are due to diseases that can
be prevented or can be treated easily at home or in health facilities with the
right resources. Child mortality is truly sad. Nearly 9 million children under
the age of five die every year. 70% of these child deaths are due to conditions
that could be prevented with access to simple solutions. Over one third of all
child deaths are because of malnutrition. As we saw in one of the ted talks,
there is enough food in the world to feed everyone; the problem is that not
everyone is receiving that food. Billions of tons of food go to waste every
year because of poor food management. This is why children in developing
countries are ten times more likely to die before the age of five than children
in developed countries.
We recently watched a ted talk
about an organization that donated ten-thousand dollars to a project which
aimed towards ending hunger. One of the main reasons for child mortality is
hunger and I believe it should be taken care of. Child mortality needs and will
be stopped.
