SAY NO TO POVERTY

Poverty, the state of being extremely poor, as described by Google, affects billions of people world wide.  Many of the factors that cause poverty include the lack of education, overpopulation, diseases and obviously having a culture of poverty.

The last two decades have been extremely important involving poverty. In 1990 about 43% of the world lived in extreme poverty and as of 2014 is has been cut down to 20%. Even though this is a big step towards elimination extreme poverty, it is unacceptable that about 1 billion of the population still lives in extreme poverty. This is only extreme poverty. Did you know that about 3 billion people worldwide live under less than $2.50 a day. Thats barely enough for a meal a day.

More than a third of my country, the Dominican Republic, lives on $1.25 a day and over 20% of the country lives in extreme poverty. Half of the country has access to clean water (a cause for water-related diseases), a house and the necessary resources to live. Healthcare is also very difficult to obtain. Something needs to be done. I am an example of a person who helps better poverty. Our school encourages us to reach out to our society and serve for them. Various clubs such as Un Techo Por Mi Pais, Tech 4 the Future, Hogar del Niño and the visits to Aldeas SOS are tools to help us serve our community. In Techo we build houses for those who are in need of one and live in poor conditions. On the other hand, in Tech 4 the Future we help kids with technology and educate them on how to use it. Both Aldeas and Hogar del Niño are orphanages where we have to opportunity to be with the kids and donate food, games and clothes to them.

I have already started my part in helping better poverty. Now its your turn! Stand up and make a change! Donate or give whatever you can because even one small act of kindness will brighten up their day and make their living conditions better.
