Clean Water and Sanitation
Having clean water is essential to life. Each person on Earth requires
at least 20 to 50 liters of clean, safe water a day for drinking, cooking, and simply
keeping themselves clean. Polluted water isn’t just dirty it’s deadly. Some 1.8
million people die every year of diarrheal
diseases like cholera and many
more.
The United Nations considers
access to clean water a basic human right and they are not wrong. Communities
with poor water and sanitation are typically economically unhealthy. Their
citizens are basically trapped in a cycle of polluted water. If the kids are
sick because of the polluted water, the less education they will receive. Economic
opportunities are lost to the impact of water pollution.
Water is obviously essential for
hydration and for food production but sanitation is an equally important. A lack of
proper sanitation services is the result of numerous diseases, which are
robbing people of their basic human rights. The lack of sanitation is making
the world and communities around the world suffer a whole lot. There are many
sources of clean water but because of human waste and other factors, water is
contaminated.
Imagine yourself without a
constant clean water source for months. You have water at any time and
anywhere. You waste lots of water by bathing, flushing the toilet, washing your
teeth, etc. Just imagine yourself without water for one day. There are plenty
of organizations out there with the goal of clean water and sanitation for all.
Clean and healthy water is essential for life.
